Property that is in the custody of the Genoa Police Department is being held for one of the following reasons:

·        Evidence for Criminal Cases

·        Safe-Keeping

·        Found/Abandoned Property

·        Property held pending forfeiture proceedings

  Claiming Impounded Property:

Any property that is impounded and being held for evidence purposes can only be released after notice is received from the Dekalb County States Attorney’s Office. The property can then be released only to the legal owner or their designate.

 Found or Lost Property:

If you have lost an item within the city limits of Genoa, you may file a report listing the item as missing. If you believe the Genoa Police Department has an item that possibly belongs to you, an appointment to view the property will be necessary. This can be done by calling the Genoa Police Department at 815-784-6633 or 815-784-2526.

 Current Items listed as Found/Abandoned Property:

·        Women’s Ring

·        Men’s Ring

·        Vehicle Jack

·        10 Misc Bicycles

·        3 Pumpkin lawn Ornaments

 If the property is not claimed it will be disposed of according to state law at the next police department auction.
