Robert Smith has been working with the Genoa Police Department since 1995. His previous employment included the Boone County Sheriff's Department and the U.S. Army. He grew up in the City of Genoa and attended school in Genoa. He feels this has helped him when assisting and talking with the people in the community.

Robert was promoted to Acting Chief in April of 2015, having been in the role of Sergeant since 2000. Robert is still the department's K9 Handler with his partner Kane. In his role of Sergeant, Robert was the Evidence Custodian for the department as well as a Juvenile Officer. He management and updated the department files during the accreditation process.

Robert is a graduate of the FBI National Academy #227, Northwestern Staff & Command #192 and has an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice, Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services and a Master's Degree in Organizational Leadership from Judson University. He is a member of the American Legion #337 of Genoa and helps assist with the coordination of the Memorial Day Parade.  Please feel free to contact Robert if you have any issues or concerns.
