Press Release

A few months ago we undertook a unique initiative intended to determine if the community would support an enhancement to our drug prevention efforts by funding a police canine program.  I am pleased to report that nearly a third of the needed funds have been received.

Combating drug abuse requires a three pronged effort involving law enforcement, education and treatment.  Our Canine program will enable us to strike more effectively at two of the three, detection of illegal drugs through the use of our own canine; and education by strengthening the message about the dangers of drugs with our young people.

Tonight we have a few of the prominent contributors to the Program with us.  These companies and individuals have made a statement by their support of this program.  They’ve made it clear that they are unwilling to tolerate drug abuse in our community. In return, we will pledge to do everything we can to make this a reality.

The Genoa Police Department would also like to thank the individual sponsors and all those who have contributed to the City’s K-9 Unit, either through a donation or purchase of merchandise, contributions to Paws for Cause, and purchase of raffle tickets.

Our fund raising efforts are continuing with a program start date of early spring.  This program is an outstanding example of an effective police/community partnership.
