A street gang is a group of people who have joined together in an alliance and exhibit certain characteristics such as a gang name, they use signs or symbols to represent themselves, and engage in criminal activity.

There are different levels of gang membership including the leadership, hard core members and fring/marginal members, also known as "wanna-be's".  

There are many reasons why somebody joins a gang.  Some of the reasons include:
Excitement
Companionship
Drugs/Money
Intimidation
Lack of family involvement
Protection

Street gang's in the mid-west typically fall under one of two "nations", either the People Nation or the Folk Nation.

The People Nation "All is Well"


Generally wear their identifiers to the left side of their body.  They will wear their hat to the
left, have earrings in their left ear, roll up their left pant leg, etc... .


Usually represented with a 5 pointed star,
each point meaning: Love, Truth, Peace,
Freedom, Justice.

gangs in the People Nation are:

The Folk Nation "All is Good"

point meaning:  Love, Life, Loyalty, Wisdom,
Knowledge, Understanding.
