| Street Gang Graffiti |
| Each gang will use it's own signs and symbols. Graffiti is more than just "scribbles on the walls". Gang graffiti is a form of communication between gangs which announces their presence, marks their territory, and sends messages to other gangs and members. Graffiti that is upside down or crossed out is generally a put down to a rival gang or person. A particular gang members name that is crossed out or upside down could also mean that a threat of bodily harm or death is going to happen to that person. The most important thing to do when finding gang graffiti is: READ IT, RECORD IT, REPORT IT and REMOVE IT! Read it: Gang graffiti can be very dangerous and a threat to many. Record it: Graffiti should be photographed. Report it: Graffiti should be reported to your local police department. Remove it: Graffiti should be removed immediately after it is discovered. |
