DeKalb County Crime Stoppers!
E-Mail e-mail Crime Information Crime Stoppers is a program which involves
the public, the media and the police in the fight against crime. It offers
anonymity and cash rewards to persons who furnish information leading to the
arrest and the filing of criminal charges against felony crime offenders and
to the capture of fugitives. Reporting Crime For Emergencies Call 911 If you need to speak with an officer call 815-784-2526 If you are the victim of a crime in Genoa you can call the police department at any time of the day or night to speak with an officer and make a report. The officer's primary responsibility will be to determine the basic facts of the case and to determine if a crime has, in fact, occurred. All crime reports will result in a preliminary investigation with appropriate follow-up work when necessary. The goal for the officer is to clear the case either by arrest or other means that are satisfactory to the victim. The officer will provide a business card containing the case number and you are encouraged to contact the assigned officer with any additional questions or concerns about your case. The official case report will be maintained at the police department for a minimum of five years. Copies of reports and other Information can be obtained from the Police Department. Requests for public information can be made using the following form. Non Crime Related Calls: In many cases reports involve disputes or behaviors that are not crimes. Examples include disputes between neighbors, non-crime domestic issues and "Harassment" complaints. Unless the reported behavior rises to the level of disorderly conduct there are no statutes that can be applied that would give the officer the legal authority to act. In many cases, our officers do not have the time to spend intervening in disputes for which they have no legal authority so we have developed a "self-reporting" alternative reporting procedure for these kinds of calls. The self-reporting form may be obtained from an officer, at the police department or it can be downloaded here. The complaining party simply completes the form and turns it in at the police department at their convenience. An officer will assign a case number and the report will remain on-file. The officer may choose to conduct an investigation and complete additional reports if he or she feels that there is a reasonable potential for crime if no action is taken.
